Wolves are a potent symbol in many ancient cultures.
In the Norse traditions, wolves represent strength, cunning and aggression. They also are associated with wisdom, leadership and fearlessness.
There were three prominent wolves in Norse culture.
The first being Fenrir, the monstrous son of Loki and the giantess Angerboda. After being tricked by the Gods that feared his strength, and after biting of the hand of Tyr, Fenrir was bound to a rock until Ragnarök. According to the myths, he will break his bonds and fall upon the Gods, devouring the sun and killing Odin.
Odins wolves Geri “the greedy one” and Freki “the ravenous one” were his constant companions and guardians.
